Chair of 'Building Better Building Beautiful Commission' sacked

I believe the commission is potentially worthy, but Scruton was the wrong appointment and a new chair was needed. There are examples of great design all around us in both the public and the private sector. However, the biggest disappointment for me is often in the implementation, quality and attention to detail. The design is all about the finished product. The current media coverage of substandard house-building practices across the country is a case in point.

I’ll be interested to see if this government has the ability to live up to their earlier statement – “This commission will kick start a debate about the importance of design and style, helping develop practical ways of ensuring new developments gain the consent of communities, helping grow a sense of place, not undermine it.”
