Walked past the Royal Festival Hall this morning. The winter sun and clear blue sky beautifully offset the building. The lettering is original and wonderful. “At the heart of the Southbank Centre complex, opened in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain, the Grade I listed Hall is one of the world’s leading performance venues.” Eric Charles Gardiner, my father, was a junior designer at the time working on the Exhibition of Science with Ronald Dickens, part of the design team lead by Sir Hugh Casson.
