I recently got to tour the Anlaby Road site of the old Hull Art College. The building for the past twenty years has been home to the Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA).
It was in 1948 that Eric Charles Gardiner walked into the Anlaby Road building and, with the foresight of lecturer Reginald Landers, founded the course that produced world-leading exhibition designers – [read here]
Reg Landers was the principal when I went for my interview in 1976 and was due to retire soon after. Sadly, with my father’s death duties to pay that year and with the local education authority unwilling to provide a student grant for an arts course outside of the county, I had to turn down my placement. It did not put me off as soon I joined T&G Display Studios in London and the start of my journey to where I am today.
