The parochial church council commissioned GDA to design a symbol for St Faith church, Kelshall, Cambridgeshire. The church dates from between 1380 and 1430. It has a distinctive collarless arch-braced roof structure that Natural Heritage refer to as spectacular.
Our research picked features from within the church to base the logo, which we agreed early on should be a roundel. We chose a floor tile with a leaf pattern. The china blue and terracotta red colours represented the tile colours, and the slightly rough drawn style picked up from the tile. The typeface is Optima, an elegant sans serif font from Roman gravestone engraving.
Following five months of development, we delivered the finished assets. The church responded – “thank you for doing such a great job”.
